IMPHAL, Oct 9 (NPN): A hand grenade blast outside an outpost of the Rapid Action Force (RAF) in Imphal late on Thursday night injured a head constable of the RAF.
Sources said that the grenade allegedly lobbed by suspected militants exploded near the gate of an B/107 RAF outpost at New Lambulane under Porompat police station in Imphal East district, around 10 pm on Thursday.
The injured personnel was identified as Dhananjay Rai, a head constable from Uttar Pradesh. He was immediately rushed to JNIMS hospital, Porompat for medical treatment.
A team of Porompat police station rushed to the spot and initiated an investigation into the incident to establish the motive behind the attack and if any militant group was involved in it.
Security measures were also stepped up in the surrounding area following the bomb attack.
The RAF personnel were deployed in the state following the outbreak of the mass violent agitations after the outbreak of Meitei-Kuki violent conflict in May 2023.
Since then, they have been engaging in dealing with public protests and agitations arising out of issues coming up from time to time.
