WDFA launches district football team, jersey and anthem

WOKHA, OCT 9 (NPN): The Wokha District Football Association (WDFA) on Friday launched its district football team, official jersey and anthem at Lotha Hoho Ki, Wokha, ahead of the Dr. T. Ao Inter-District Football Tournament.
The association has selected 22 players for the squad, who underwent more than 20 days of conditioning in preparation for the tournament. The team will be coached by Vizoru Peseyie, an AFC C Licence holder.
MLA Y. Mhonbemo Humtsoe attended the programme as the special guest, organised by WDFA and hosted by Lotha Hoho.
Addressing the gathering, Humtsoe said the district jersey symbolised identity, pride and belonging, adding that representing Wokha carried the responsibility of upholding discipline, teamwork and sportsmanship. He urged the players to remain united, respect one another and give their best throughout the tournament.
WDFA president N. Samuel Ezung said the association had conducted trials to select the 22-member squad and prepared the team through an intensive conditioning programme. He expressed enthusiasm about the team’s participation in the tournament.
Deputy Commissioner of Wokha, K. Mhathung Tsanglao, encouraged the players to make the most of the opportunity, noting that their performance would reflect both their individual abilities and the spirit of the district.
Retired state coach of the Department of Youth Resources and Sports and vice chairman of Dimapur Lotha Hoho, P. Yanbemo Humtsoe, and retired DSP and the first Lotha international football player, Y. Yambemo Ezung, also encouraged the team to remain focused, play with confidence and uphold the dignity of Wokha.
The special guest formally launched the official jersey and anthem. The programme featured an invocation by Limhathung Patton, catechist of St. Paul’s Church, Wokha Town, a welcome address by Ezung and a dedication prayer by Yentsao Ezung, pastor of Longsa Baptist Church. Lotha Hoho chairman Er. Mhondamo Ovung delivered a short address, while Lochumbeni K. Kikon presented a special number.
The programme was chaired by Amos T. Odyuo, treasurer of the WDFA committee for the Dr. T. Ao Tournament, and concluded with a benediction by Benathung Mozhui, associate youth director of Wokha Baptist Church.
In a friendly match held in connection with the programme, WDFA defeated Tseminyu District Football Association 5–0.
