DIMAPUR: Dimapur Naga Students’ Union (DNSU) has expressed profound outrage and unequivocally condemned the heinous drone attack on Langkho village in the Naga Self Administered Zone (NSAZ) on October 3, 2026, which injured two civilians-including a minor girl-and caused extensive damage to properties.
DNSU stated that regardless of the perpetrators, the deliberate or indiscriminate targeting of civilian populated areas constitutes a blatant violation of International Humanitarian Law (IHL), including the Geneva Conventions and core United Nations Charter principles.
It stressed that military operations must adhere to the principles of distinction, proportionality and precaution, and that launching aerial strikes in inhabited civilian zones disregards human life, dignity and fundamental international statutes.
The Union asserted that civilian lives-especially those of women and children-are sacred and cannot be dismissed as “collateral damage.” It said such reckless military actions only perpetuate fear, insecurity and trauma among innocent populations.
DNSU also took grave exception to the re extension of the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act (AFSPA) across the Naga homeland by the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, effective October 1, 2026. It maintained that AFSPA has, for decades, acted as an instrument of fear and oppression, shielding perpetrators under legal immunity while stripping away fundamental human rights.
The Union demanded an immediate halt to all military actions and aerial strikes in civilian populated zones in accordance with international humanitarian standards, and called for the revocation of AFSPA from the entire Naga homeland to restore human rights, democratic values and genuine peace.
Standing in solidarity with the Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) and victims of the Langkho attack, DNSU urged international human rights organisations, the United Nations and civil society bodies to take cognizance of these grave violations and ensure justice for the Naga people.
