Flush-out ops as per govt order: Khulu

Commissioner Nagaland, HK Khulu on Monday said that evacuation of armed cadres from civilian populated areas was being carried out as per the directives of the government in the larger interest of law and order.
Addressing the District Level Coordination Group (DLCG) meeting held here at the DC’s conference hall, Khulu said operations to flush out all armed cadres, irrespective of factions, were done not to confront the cadres but for the security and safety of civilians.
In this regard, he said it was unbecoming of a civilized society to single out or target government officials, while referring to the recent threat received by the Kohima DC.
Speaking on maintenance of ceasefire agreement, Khulu said “we have sufficient forces but because of the ceasefire, there is so much restraint,”
He however said the restraint should not be taken as a sign of weakness.
Stating that the State required not only flushing out of armed cadres but meeting of the minds, he called upon all to put their heads together and give their efforts to see that violence comes to a stop and peace is brought about.
DC Kohima Sachopra Vero affirmed to continue to make all efforts to maintain peace in Kohima. He urged the district administration, police to be more sincere and effective in their approach, saying “we should not allow armed cadres to increase in Kohima.”
He also acknowledged the support and cooperation of public leaders, NGOs, GBs and DBs, colony leaders and student leaders, in the ongoing operations.
SP Kohima Renchamo Kikon said flush out operations should not be taken on a personal note by any faction. He also called upon the NGOs to be critical in their approach so that positive results were brought about.
Commandant, 26 Assam Rifles, Col. G. Ganguly said maintaining law and order was not just bound to security forces alone, but even NGOs, civil societies and public leaders should take initiatives to bring about peaceful atmosphere.
Angami Public Organization president, Mhiesizokho Zinyü expressed concern over charges leveled against government officials and public leaders.
Other officials present at the meeting included Lt. Col. G.S. Gil from 26 Assam Rifles; Commandant NAP Thizama, Z. Mero; Sawathang Kez, president, Rengma Hoho; Kelhouneizo Yhome, president, Angami Students’ Union; Vikhweno, EAC.
