ATJT observes Tsungremmong

Ao Telongjem Jalukie Town (ATJT) observed Ao Naga Tsungremmong festival at Jalukie with S. Chuba Longkumer, BDO Tening as the main speaker on the topic ‘Culture and contemporary context’. The festival was observed on the theme ‘Unity’ at the residence of Temjenyanger.
Dwelling on the topic, Chuba said “in the beginning there was culture, today there is culture with us and there will be culture even in future’. Stressing culture as an educator for any person, he said that the good culture of the Ao Nagas originated in Chungliyimti simultaneously with the origin of the Ao community. Chuba pointed out that according to its culture, the Ao Nagas celebrate Tsungremmong worshipping the ‘longtitsuba’ and ‘anungtsuba’ god to protect their paddy from all unwanted elements and provide a plentiful harvest.
The main speaker opined that for several generations, culture was practiced by both the individual and society in harmony till the arrival of ill culture and alien culture that made progress. As a result, the ill and alien cultures, Ao Naga culture and civilization made progress in both the individual and social life, said Chuba further adding that culture is the base for all persons and that any person with good knowledge of culture makes progress in life. He also said that a person can escape from laws and acts but cannot escape from norms of culture. In this regard, Chuba pointed out that culture is as important as food for survival and elucidated that while water, air and food were important for a person’s survival, culture liberates and provides holistic growth.
Alluding to the topic, he said that due to the mixed growth of cultures there was negative effect in both the inherent culture and society. In this connection, Chuba highlighted on some practices that were prevalent today in terms of clothing, language, living and others. He pointed out that a person who loves culture will love his people and his country.
The programme also included prayer by Alisoa, youth director, cultural song and act by youths, exhortation by S.H. Sangtam, SDO (PWD), Jalukie, and benediction by M. Sobu Pongen.
