WOKHA, OCT 15 (NPN): The fourth Wokha District Inter-School Sepaktakraw Tournament began at Public Ground on Thursday, with 12 schools registered under the Wokha District Sepaktakraw Association (WDSA-S).
Nagaland Sepaktakraw Association president Ruokuo Kire, who attended the inaugural programme as special guest, urged young players to uphold sportsmanship, learn from defeats and strive for excellence. He also called on schools, teachers and parents to encourage students to participate in sports.
Kire appreciated the district association for organising the annual tournament and assured continued support from the state association to promote sepaktakraw across Nagaland. He noted that several players from the state were representing Nagaland at the national level.
WDSA president Dr. T. Thungchibemo Lotha said the association, formed on October 20, 2021, had produced two national-level players and one state-level player. He expressed hope that more schools would join the initiative to develop the sport in the district.
The two-day tournament will conclude on October 16, with deputy commissioner (DC) Wokha K. Mhathung Tsanglao attending the closing programme as guest of honour.
