DIMAPUR, OCT 16 (NPN): Angami Youth Organization (AYO) has reaffirmed the 1993 Angami Public Organisation (APO) resolution on “One Government, One Tax”, warning that extortion and harassment in the name of the Naga political issue would not be tolerated.
AYO president Petevito Nakhro and general secretary Vipu Zashümo expressed solidarity with the business community and public, warning that threats, intimidation or forced shop closures over non-payment would invite coordinated public agitation. AYO reiterated its commitment to a peaceful, just and honourable resolution of Naga issue, asserting that legitimate Naga aspirations could not justify financial exploitation and public harassment.
It said people had endured parallel taxation for decades in the hope of a peaceful settlement, but alleged that extortion had evolved from political contributions into a commercial racket affecting the economy.
AYO urged Naga national workers to refrain from harassing individuals and businesses through taxation/extortion, and appealed to all groups to respect Angami sentiments and honour the APO resolution. Insisting on strict adherence to “one government, one tax” principle, AYO said no individual, business house or contractor should pay taxes, annual fees or festive demands to any faction. It also urged the state government and law enforcement agencies to strengthen law enforcement and ensure public safety. AYO called for dedicated, confidential helplines or grievance cells under each district executive force, urging public to use the police portal– Suraksha.PoliceNagaland.com and crime branch helpline.
It appealed to the public to remain vigilant and united against illegal demands.
