DIMAPUR: Peace Channel welcomed students and teachers of Trinity High School, Kohima to the Peace Centre, Chümoukedima for an exposure visit on October 17. The visit provided an opportunity for the team to explore the work of Peace Channel and its contributions to nurturing peace, leadership and social responsibility among children and youth.
The Peace Centre comprises two complementary wings-Peace Channel, an NGO and youth peace movement promoting peacebuilding, empowerment and community engagement; and the North East Institute of Social Sciences and Research (NEISSR), an academic institution focusing on social work education, research and peace and conflict transformation studies. Together, they integrate academic learning with practical peacebuilding for social transformation.
The visit was marked by joyful interactions and meaningful learning. Kevin, Proprietor of Trinity High School, expressed gratitude to Peace Centre for its hospitality and appreciated Peace Channel’s continued efforts in promoting peace education. He noted that Trinity High School was among the first schools to associate with Peace Channel, with all members of the school community being Peace Club members.
An inspiring story was shared of a former Peace Club member whose involvement in peacebuilding motivated her to pursue social work. She later became a faculty member at NEISSR and is currently preparing for competitive examinations, reflecting the lasting influence of peace education in shaping aspirations and careers.
Addressing the students, Dr. Fr. C. P. Anto, founder of Peace Channel and Principal of NEISSR, encouraged them to embrace the “3 Ds”-Discipline, Dedication and Diligence-as essential values for achieving their dreams. He urged them to develop a clear vision, remain committed to their goals and grow into responsible citizens and agents of peace. He also shared insights into Bloom’s Taxonomy, emphasising creative, interactive and student centred teaching methods that promote critical thinking and holistic development.
The students and teachers expressed excitement as they visited NEISSR, recognised as the first institute of social work in Nagaland. They explored the Peace Garden, Peace Library, and Peace Museum, learning about the contributions of Peace Award recipients from 2009 to 2025.
The visit concluded on an encouraging note, with Peace Channel reaffirming its commitment to strengthen its association with Trinity High School and continue inspiring young people to become Channels of Peace in their schools, communities and beyond.
