KU undertakes peace mission across Eastern Nagaland

DIMAPUR, OCT 21 (NPN): Konyak Union (KU) undertook a peace mission across Eastern Nagaland from October 15-19, 2026 engaging with tribal leaders and civil society groups in a bid to ease inter-tribal tensions and restore normalcy in the region.
In a press release, KU president K Yamao Konyak and general secretary Wango Konyak said the team visited Shamator, Kiphire, Noklak, Tuensang and Longleng, appealing to communities to uphold peace, unity and brotherhood amid a fragile situation.
The union said the mission aimed to bridge divides between communities, promote inter-tribal harmony and ensure peaceful coexistence in Eastern Nagaland, in line with the common objectives under the leadership of the Eastern Nagaland Peoples’ Organisation (ENPO).
During its visit to Tuensang town, the team attended services at seven tribal churches and urged church leaders to take a proactive role in restoring calm and facilitating healing in the region.
The team also made a strategic stop at Kiusam, headquarters of the Tikhir Tribal Council (TTC), where it met tribal leaders and members of communities affected by displacement amid recent tensions in the area.
As part of its outreach, the KU delegation met the deputy commissioners of Kiphire and Shamator to discuss the prevailing situation. It also held a consultative meeting with ENPO leaders in Tuensang, briefing them on ground realities and urging them to convey the situation to the state government for necessary intervention.
The union said the peace mission was guided by the ENPO resolution adopted on December 18, 2007, which strictly prohibits bloodshed and violence within Eastern Nagaland’s jurisdiction.
The mission concluded in Longleng town, where the team met the Phom People’s Council.
KU urged tribal leaders and communities across the region to uphold peace, strengthen brotherhood and shun violence.
The union stressed on the need for collective efforts to restore stability and maintain peaceful coexistence in Eastern Nagaland.
