DIMAPUR: Peace Channel, a community based movement promoting peace education, and the North East Institute of Social Sciences and Research (NEISSR), a social work institute in Nagaland, have expressed gratitude to the Nagaland State Transport (NST) Department for positively responding to their appeal for public bus connectivity between Niuland and Dimapur.
According to Peace Channel Desk, the initiative emerged from Peace Channel’s engagement with children and youth, which revealed the transportation difficulties faced by schoolchildren travelling to Dimapur for education and training programmes.
The absence of affordable public transport had created barriers to accessing educational opportunities and participating in peace building initiatives. Recognising that reliable transport was essential for equitable access to education and youth development, Peace Channel and NEISSR appealed to the NST Department for bus services linking Niuland with Dimapur.
The appeal, supported by Peace Club members, public leaders and community representatives, highlighted the everyday challenges faced by students and families. The Government’s positive response reflects the importance of community concerns being addressed through constructive engagement with public institutions.
Peace Channel and NEISSR believe that regular and affordable bus services will ease financial and logistical burdens on families, improve mobility, and enable children and youth to access schools, training programmes and developmental opportunities more conveniently.
The organisations reaffirmed their commitment to working collaboratively with the Government, children, youth, community leaders and institutions to advance child welfare, peace education and inclusive development across Nagaland.
They expressed hope that the initiative will encourage continued attention to the transportation and educational needs of underserved communities.
