Tikhir groups reach reconciliation agreement

DIMAPUR, OCT 21 (NPN): Tikhir Baptist Biti Atükhienti (TBBA) peace mission team convened a reconciliation meeting with two groups within the Tikhir community at Tikhir Baptist Church, Kiphire town, on October 20, 2026 seeking to resolve internal disputes and restore unity. According to a statement, the meeting brought together the Tikhir Tribal Council (TTC) team led by P Timong and the group led by RT Kius, along with their respective members. The meeting was chaired by TBBA president and peace mission team convenor M Tsulimthong.
The two sides discussed disputes and misunderstandings relating to tribal leadership and agreed to work together in the interest of peace, unity and cooperation, guided by Christian principles of respect, love and community welfare.
As part of the reconciliation, RT Kius and his team agreed to extend their full cooperation to the TTC led by P Timong. The meeting also resolved that all previous disputes and actions at the tribal and organisational levels, including suspensions, expulsions, FIRs, declarations of individuals as disowned, non-cooperation, court petitions and related matters, would be treated as null and void, or withdrawn, with immediate effect.
Further, the agreement stated that any attempt by an organisation or council to enforce previous orders or initiate unilateral action, individually or collectively, against any member would be considered null and void.
It also warned against attempts to create divisions within the tribe, stating that action should be directed at individuals responsible rather than affecting an entire village or organisation.
The meeting prohibited statements circulated on social media or other public platforms intended to defame, mislead or create divisions, and urged all members to maintain peace and harmony.
The minutes of the reconciliation meeting were signed by representatives of both groups. The signatories from the P Timong-led team were P Timong, N Yantsuthong and T Tsuthong, while the RT Kius-led team was represented by RT Kius, S Moa Tikhir and T Wongsuthong. Following the reconciliation meeting, a prayer programme was held at the TTC headquarters in Kiusam on October 21.
TTC president P Timong and RT Kius delivered short speeches, followed by a thanksgiving prayer led by TBBA executive secretary Rev M Shiuto.
Representatives of frontal organisations, GBs from Tikhir villages and members of both groups attended the programme.
