Shillong, Oct 22 (NPN): Security has been tightened in Meghalaya’s capital after a petrol bomb was thrown at the Enforcement Directorate (ED) office during the early hours of Thursday morning.
Police said the attack was allegedly carried out by two masked men on a two-wheeler in Shillong’s Langkyrding area.
This attack comes after a series of similar petrol bomb and arson incidents targeted Shillong’s government offices and public infrastructure in recent weeks.
Superintendent of Police, East Khasi Hills district, Vivek Syiem said no one was injured nor the building suffered any structural damage.
“We are analysing the CCTV footage to identify the attackers. We have registered a case and have increased patrols in the locality,” he said.
District Magistrate of East Khasi Hills, Abhilash Baranwal said the district administration has deployed additional police personnel across the city to thwart such attacks.
Baranwal appealed to residents to stay calm and help preserve Shillong’s communal harmony and peaceful atmosphere.
“Adequate steps needed to prevent further incidents and maintain law and order,” he said.
