CNCCI flays trader’s abduction, demands safe release

DIMAPUR, OCT 30 (NPN): Confederation of Nagaland Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CNCCI) has condemned the abduction of businessman Altaf Hussain by unidentified persons from New Market, Dimapur, on October 28, 2026 and demanded his safe and immediate release.
CNCCI through its media affairs expressed solidarity with Hussain and his family, describing the incident as a serious concern for the security of the business community.
Raising questions over law enforcement, CNCCI said CCTV footage reportedly showed the abduction taking place in broad daylight in the busy lanes of New Market. It questioned how such an incident could occur without intervention and urged the authorities to act swiftly, identify and arrest those involved, and keep the public informed about the investigation.
The organisation said grievances or disputes must be addressed through established legal and institutional channels, adding that abduction, intimidation and extortion could not be justified under any circumstances. It stressed that no individual or organisation was above the law.
CNCCI also condemned the alleged involvement of a Naga political group, stating that the Naga national movement and the sacrifices underpinning it should not be used to justify criminal acts against innocent citizens, particularly members of the business community.
“Abduction and extortion cannot be considered acts of Naga nationalism,” CNCCI stated, describing such activities as contrary to the interests of the Naga people and damaging to the ideals and sacrifices associated with the Naga national cause.
It urged the group concerned to focus its efforts on the “Indo-Naga” political solution rather than activities unrelated to the national cause.
CNCCI appealed to the New Market Business Owners’ Association, Dimapur Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI), community leaders and the public to cooperate with investigating authorities and share any information that could help identify and apprehend those responsible.
Stating that the business community could not function in an atmosphere of fear and insecurity, CNCCI called for the victim’s unconditional and safe return, and urged law enforcement agencies to act without delay.
CNCCI reiterated that the safety, security and dignity of every citizen must be protected and that the rule of law must prevail.
