DIMAPUR: AICC observer Pranav Shagotra held a consultative meeting on the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process in Zunheboto on October 29. The meeting was attended by NPCC general secretary Yanchamo Ovung, Zunheboto District Congress Committee (DCC) president Vikato Zhimo, senior Congress leaders, party officials and workers.
According to a press release, the meeting focused on the SIR process and the need to safeguard the democratic rights of every eligible voter.
Discussions underscored the importance of transparency, accountability and proper verification during the revision of electoral rolls to ensure that no genuine voter was unfairly excluded from the electoral process.
Addressing the gathering, Shagotra highlighted the ongoing campaign led by Rahul Gandhi against alleged “Vote Chori” and raised concerns over electoral transparency and the functioning of the Election Commission of India under Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. He said protecting the integrity of elections was essential to preserving public confidence in democratic institutions.
Shagotra stressed that every eligible citizen must be able to exercise their constitutional right to vote without fear, discrimination or unnecessary obstacles. He urged Congress leaders and party workers to remain vigilant throughout the SIR process, create public awareness and assist eligible voters in ensuring that their names remain on the electoral rolls.
He also appealed to the people of Nagaland, civil society organisations and all those who believe in democratic values to join Rahul Gandhi at Ramlila Maidan, New Delhi, on November 1, 2026 as part of a broader campaign to protect voting rights, demand electoral accountability and strengthen democracy.
