Khamo advocates ethical entrepreneurship, self-reliance

DIMAPUR: Advisor, Civil Administration Works Division (CAWD), Kudecho Khamo underscored the importance of integrity, honesty and respect for customers as the foundation of every successful business enterprise. He encouraged aspiring entrepreneurs to conduct proper market research, identify gaps and unmet needs, and make informed decisions before venturing into any trade or business.
Khamo was addressing the Community Business Meet 2026, organised by the Western Chakhesang Hoho (WCH) on October 31 at the Mission Centre of the Western Chakhesang Baptist Church Council (WCBCC), Kozabe, Chümoukedima, under the theme “Economic Self-Reliance and Entrepreneurship”.
The initiative was conceived as a platform to bring together entrepreneurs, business owners, professionals and aspiring business leaders to exchange ideas, share experiences and explore opportunities for collaboration, partnerships and sustainable economic growth within the community.
Addressing the gathering, Khamo stressed that entrepreneurship should not be driven solely by profit but guided by ethical practices and a genuine commitment to customer satisfaction. He maintained that building trust and upholding integrity in business dealings were essential for long-term credibility and sustainable growth.
Khamo further observed that the Chakhesang community was known for its honesty, bravery, hard work and integrity, and urged community members to translate these qualities into economic opportunities. Pointing to the growing presence of Chakhesang entrepreneurs in vegetable vending and thrift businesses in Kohima, he also highlighted the emergence of young entrepreneurs and encouraged them to build upon existing ventures while exploring new opportunities.
Warning that poverty and backwardness could become serious challenges unless the community pursued social and economic reforms, Khamo called for a shift away from dependence on leaders and the tendency to expect others to create opportunities.
He maintained that individuals must take responsibility for their own economic well-being instead of blaming leaders or those who had progressed through their own efforts.
Khamo also highlighted the importance of financial literacy, proper planning and specialisation in one’s chosen field, while encouraging individuals to identify and develop their talents and skills.
Observing that the world was becoming increasingly competitive with a growing emphasis on capitalism, he urged the community to preserve its traditional values, culture and Christian faith while pursuing economic advancement. He further called upon people of the Western Chakhesang area to take the lead in transforming community resources, human potential and traditional strengths into viable business ventures, thereby setting an example for others.
According to the release, a plenary session on “Interaction and Way Forward” was also held, providing participants with an opportunity to deliberate on the existing business landscape, entrepreneurial experiences, emerging opportunities and challenges confronting business ventures within the community.
The panel discussion was moderated by Principal of Great Commission Higher Secondary School, Elizabeth Dozo Semp, and entrepreneur and social worker, Elijah Pfuno.
Panellists included entrepreneur and social worker, Vepozo Dozo; proprietor of Kee Space, Azolo Nuh; businessman, Akho Kezo; and entrepreneur, Werite Kevichusa.
The discussion focused on showcasing existing businesses and business interests, sharing entrepreneurial experiences and ideas, exploring collaboration and partnership opportunities, identifying key challenges, and encouraging constructive suggestions from participants.
