DIMAPUR: The State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT), Nagaland, concluded a three-day capacity-building workshop on the implementation of Kaushal Bodh on October 30 at SCERT, Kohima.
According to DIPR report, the workshop brought together teachers from 46 PM SHRI schools and eight District Institutes of Education and Training (DIETs) to strengthen the implementation of Kaushal Bodh at the middle school level.
It may be noted that Kaushal Bodh is a vocational education subject introduced at the middle stage (Classes 6-8) in alignment with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and the National Curriculum Framework for School Education (NCF-SE) 2023. It is designed to provide students with their first structured exposure to the world of work through meaningful, project-based learning.
The programme commenced with a welcome session chaired by Rose Kithan, Research Associate, SCERT Nagaland, followed by an introduction to Lend A Hand India (LAHI) by Programme Lead, Richard Asoso. Delivering the keynote address, Joint Director, SCERT Nagaland, Woshamo, emphasised the importance of connecting classroom learning with real-life experiences through project-based learning. He highlighted the need to focus on the learning process rather than merely the final outcome, enabling students to develop critical thinking, curiosity, teamwork, collaboration and communication skills.
He also underscored the dignity of labour and the importance of cultivating a positive attitude towards work. Further, he stressed the responsibility of DIET faculty members to cascade the training and support wider implementation across the districts.
Kaushal Bodh, titled “Building the Foundations for the Future of Work,” is a curricular initiative for Classes VI to VIII that connects classroom learning with practical experiences through structured projects. Organised around three domains-work with life forms, work with machines and materials, and work with human services-the programme enables students to explore their surroundings, identify needs, solve problems and apply knowledge collaboratively.
The workshop highlighted the need for students to move beyond memorisation and develop the ability to apply knowledge, think critically, adapt to changing circumstances and work effectively with others. Through planning, experimentation, problem-solving and reflection, Kaushal Bodh seeks to build foundational skills for future readiness and lifelong learning.
The first day focused on curriculum orientation, learning outcomes, facilitation strategies and planning a 30-hour project journey. The second day featured hands-on sessions, including Toys Lab, Tie and Dye, and project planning from design to presentation.
On the final day, participants engaged in activities such as Cooking without Fire, developed project plans and explored the distinction between Kaushal Bodh and the 10 Bagless Days initiative. The workshop concluded with an orientation on monitoring formats, SCERT updates and certificate distribution.
The training was facilitated by Training Lead, LAHI, Nehali Ayare, and Training Officer, LAHI, Avanti Gajanan Harne. Representatives from the Directorate of School Education, Samagra Shiksha Nagaland and the Nagaland Board of School Education (NBSE) also attended the workshop.
SCERT stated that the programme marked an important step towards strengthening experiential and project-based learning across Nagaland and preparing students to develop practical competencies and confidently face the future world of work.
