Congress calls for vigilance over SIR exercise

DIMAPUR, NOV 3 (NPN): Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) has urged party workers in Mon district to closely monitor the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and verify voter lists to identify any wrongful deletions.
The appeal was made at a meeting held in Mon under the campaign “Vote Bachao, Desh Bachao”, attended by AICC observer Puran Chand Padhi, NPCC working president Apok Jamir and Mon District Congress Committee (DCC) members.
Addressing the meeting, Padhi expressed concern that the SIR could be misused to remove genuine voters from electoral rolls. He alleged that chief election commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar was overseeing a process through which eligible voters’ names were being deleted. Padhi called upon Congress workers to conduct constituency-level verification and remain vigilant to protect every eligible citizen’s right to vote.
Also, speaking at the meet, Jamir raised concerns over alleged “Vote Chori”, claiming that around 14% of votes had been deleted across the country. He said the SIR exercise in Mon had been conducted more systematically than in some other districts, particularly Dimapur, but stressed the need for continued monitoring across Nagaland.
He urged party workers to scrutinise electoral rolls and complete verification before November 20, 2026, bringing any discrepancies or suspected wrongful deletions to the attention of the appropriate authorities. The meeting concluded with an appeal to DCC members and grassroots workers to work together to ensure that every eligible voter’s name remained on the electoral roll.
