Street play campaign underway

Community Education Centre Society (CECS) in its effort towards spreading literacy and alternative education of child labourers, bonded labourers and dropouts and as a part of larger and integrated process of social, economic and political empowerment, launched street play campaign against bonded child labour on the theme “free the children”.
The 10 days street play campaign got a spectacular opening late Friday evening at Dimapur, Railway Bazaar.
The show commenced with dance and drama depicting the reality of child trafficking, bonded child labour and life testimony by students of CECS.
In his short speech, Yanger Aier, project officer, Labour department Kohima said child labour was illegal adding that the labour department with its effort against child labour also planned to open school for children which will impart education, irrespective of communities.
Highlighting the objective of the programme, Subonenba Logkumer, project director, CECS expressed the prevalence of child trafficking where children were forced to work at the mercy of their master or owners. He said people should be aware of child’s rights and educate their children by sending them to school. He also said illiteracy would lead to anti-social activities in society.
The group would be campaigning in different parts of Dimapur to address major issues on bonded child labour, school drop out child labour, street child labour, domestic child labour and child labour in business establishment.The campaign is being sponsored by Labour department, Government of Nagaland.
