Cong not keen to topple DAN govt

The State Congress party appears not in the mood to topple the five-month old DAN government.
“Our endeavor is not for toppling the government, but for constructive criticism and constructive support to any government at the helm of affairs,” said the newly appointed president of Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) KV Pusa.
Addressing his first press conference after taking the reins of president NPCC, Pusa said in a democracy the numbers mattered and it was a fact that Congress had twenty members, seven less for a simple majority in the sixty-member house.
“Toppling is not our top priority at the moment,” he said and added “the top priority is building the party in the state.”
Claiming that people were by and large with the Congress party, Pusa also expressed confidence that the party would bag the State’s lone Lok Sabha seat in the forthcoming general elections.
While urging the DAN government to concentrate on road development, the NPCC president also said the government should discourage corruption in all spheres.
Asked about the stand of Congress party on the road scam, which had been handed over to the Vigilance Commission, Pusa said the government should pursue vigorously without any let-up.
On the law and order front, Pusa appealed to all sections of society to shun the path of violence and said the approach to any solution should be based on “non-violence.”
Terming the recent killing of a GB in Dimapur as “very unfortunate,” he said it was wrong to kill innocent citizens.
Maintaining that killing of innocent citizens should not be clubbed with factional fights, NPCC president said he was not sure whether the DAN government had filed FIRs for killing innocent citizens.
Pusa reminded that it was the duty of the government of the day to secure and protect the civilians and their property.
On allegation that CLP leader Chingwang Konyak was responsible for bringing Lok Sabha MP Wangyuh Konyak to a dinner hosted by Sonia Gandhi, Pusa said it was only a “figment of imagination.” He however appreciated Wangyuh for voting in favour of the UPA in the confidence vote on nuclear deal and said the MP did the right thing.
Asked whether Wangyuh would rejoin the Congress, he said “I have no comment…it’s is up to him to decide and we cannot read his mind.”
Earlier, Pusa thanked Congress president Sonia Gandhi for reposing her faith in him to lead the Congress party in the State and for approving the NPCC office bearers list. He also introduced the new team to the media.
