Kiyanilie attends 54th CPA Conference

Kiyanilie Peseyie, Speaker, Nagaland Legislative Assembly who is also a member of the Executive Committee of CPA Indian Region and President of Commonwealth Parliamentary Association, Nagaland Branch attended the 54th CPA Conference as an official delegate held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia from August 1 to 10.
The Malaysian Deputy Prime Minister Dato Sri Mohd Najib Tun Razak, representing the Prime Minister of Malaysia Dato Seri Abdullah Haji Ahmed Badawi inaugurated the 54th Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference in a colourful and traditional opening ceremony at Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre stated a release issued by A.E.Lotha, Secretary. During the conference, divergent subject matters like ‘Democracy and Global Peace- an international order, Sustainable development in the context of rapid urbanization and rural decline, Credible elections for a more representative parliament, free and fair participation, greater diversity and access to a free media, Reforming the budget process; Parliamentary Budget offices and effective parliamentary oversight in order to pave way for expanding the role of parliamentary democracy in global society were discussed, added the release.
The President of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference and the Speaker of the House of Representatives of Malaysia, Tan Sri Pandikar Amin Haji Mulia addressed 1000 guests and delegates from 57 countries before reading out the message from Her Majesty the Queen and the Patron of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association stated the release. The vote of thanks was pronounced by Samuel J.Sitta, Vice-President of the CPA and Speaker of the National Assembly of Tanzania.
On the last day of the conference, Mohd Shafie Apdal, MP and Minister of Unity, Culture, arts and Heritage, Malaysia was elected as the chairperson of the Executive Committee of the CPA who shall hold the office for a tenure of 3 years stated the release.
On conclusion of the conference, the speaker along with his lady wife left for Tokyo on September 10 as part of their study tour and visited historically dominant places in Japan. On September 12, they reached Beijing and also visited various parts of China to acquaint themselves with the lifestyles of the people and to have an over view of the prominent places in Beijing, the release stated. The Speaker and his lady wife also traveled Bangkok and arrived at Kohima on August 19 after a prolific tour.
