A monument in memory of five outstanding pioneers from Changki Süngdakba was inaugurated Wednesday at Changki Village under Mangkolemba Sub-division with treasuries and accounts director K.Tiayanger Tzüdir as chief guest.
Five personalities include late Tzüdiong; the first convert to Christianity among Changki villagers, late Rev Longri Ao; God’s humble servant and “Man of Peace” with a vision, who coined the word
“Nagaland” as the nomenclature of the present state, late Süngtikemba Tzudiri; a calligraphist, a teacher and a music composer, late Emtionen Amri, a pioneer agriculturist, who is credited for massive bamboo plantation in Changki area making it the most bamboo-rich area in Nagaland today, late Chubawati; the first Martriculate and Graduate from the village as well as an educationist.
Speaking on the occasion, the chief guest remarked that Changki today was reaping the fruit of all the sacrifices made by the pioneers. He said what was more important was the lessons to be learned from the constructed monument.
“Humanity don’t know the reasons behind the construction of the pyramids, but we know today why this humble monument is constructed,” he said and stressed that younger generation needed to draw inspiration from the lives of these great persons.
Further, opining that unity and love was more important than fame and glory, Tzüdir the youngsters to make selfless sacrifices and to be bold enough to take bigger steps and leaps.
A minute of silent for the departed souls of the leaders was also observed during the programme.
The monument of the five leaders was dedicated by Allen Amri, associate pastor and short speeches were delivered by Teka longchari, president, Changki Süngdakba Senso Mungdang (C.S.S.M.), Alemyanger, Imlimeren and also by the chairman, village council Changki.
CSU 3rd general conference underway at Changki village
Changki Students’ Union (CSU)’s third general conference and sports meet 2015 commenced at Orija Salang, Changki village, under Mokokchung district January 7. Secretary to the government of Nagaland Bendang Longchari graced the occasion as inaugural guest.
Around 1000 student delegates from all over the state are currently camping at Changki for the conference, which would conclude January 9. While addressing the conference, inaugural guest Bendang Longchari urged the students to know their origin and roots, saying “only in knowing and loving one’s own roots, will one find his/her own true identity and come to embrace it as is the theme for the meet”.
He expressed pain by the damage done to the society by the culture of one-upmanship and urged the delegates to dedicate their lives instead in trying to rebuild the past glories and unity that once existed in the society. Longchari acknowledged that single village, which already has produced two chief secretaries of the state as well as numerous luminaries, still had the potentials to produce many more.
But to achieve such heights, he said the need for talent nourishment, introspection and to discover the power of oneness was the needed.
“Destiny don’t come to us, destiny is what we make of our lives”, he said and challenged the young aspirants to cement “our relationship among ourselves and to walk and talk as one”.
Among a host of important personalities, Dr. Akum Longchari, Proprietor and Editor of the Morung Express, Susan Waten, Founder of HAWA, K. Tiayanger Tzudir, Director of Treasuries and Accounts, Samuel Changkija, Dr. Jamedi Longkumer and many other dignitaries were present at the opening event.
First session of the meet concluded with a panel discussion on the conference theme “Embracing Changki”.
