Highlighting the need for a great revival of younger generation of Nagas for a developed and prosperous Nagaland, Naga Hoho president Chuba Ozukum asked them to come out of “tribalism” and emotionalism”.
He was speaking at career guidance programme for school students coinciding with the launching of a non-profit making organisation “Open Minds” at Don Bosco Higher Secondary School, Dimapur on Saturday.
Ozukum said “tribalism” and emotionalism” are two factors that have been pushing the younger generation back from competitions with the youths of other parts of the country
“Usually Naga people do not want to go for hard work. They like to earn easy money. Moreover, they do not think of the future of the generation,” he lamented.
Expressing concern over excessive use of social media, he was of the view that there was “something wrong going” with younger generation and that the impact of social media on youths should be examined seriously.
Saying that the youth have to choose their career at the right time, Naga Hoho president said it was observed that many parents try to impose their own ideas on their children in choosing their career. He lamented that this practice has damaged the personal growth of many children in the state.
Stating that many parents advised their children to choose their career option depending on their results on performance on secondary schools, Ozukum said this practice was not good and that the parents should see the interests of the children at first for choosing their options.
Special guest, joint secretary to government of Manipur, Tribal Affairs Department, Armstrong Pame also urged all students to work hard to fulfil their dreams in life saying “if you have zeal, nothing is impossible for you.”
“Take a decision to do something in your life, Take time for it. It deserves sacrifice. You have to go for hard work and sacrifice for it to give yourself mental pleasure,” he said.
Speaking on the occasion, assistant solicitor general of India, Gauhati High Court, Alin Kamei urged all the students to grow up in wisdom and knowledge to fulfil their hopes and aspiration of life.
In her speech, anaesthesiologist, Nikos Hospital, Dr. Thungbeni Ngullie elaborated about the entrance examination and other details for choosing medicine as career option. In the function, Naga artiste Alobo Naga enthralled the students by giving his lyrical speech on career option in music and singing a song.
Earlier, invocation prayer was said by Rev. Fr. CT Varghese (rector, DBHSS Dimapur), DBHSS principal Fr. Joshua Gangmei gave the welcome address. The organisation was formally launched by assistant professor of Tetso College, Azyn by lighting the candle.
The song of runners-up GVH 2015 Ruirui Newmai and modern dance by Ritsala and her aides were also attraction of the programme.
