On the occasion of International Labour day (ILD), the Legal Services Authority of various districts marked the day by organizing programmes across the state.
Kohima: The Kohima District Legal Services Authority (KDLSA) in collaboration with Labour department and District administration SDO(C) Jakhama celebrated International Labour day at SDO (C) Office, Jakhama on May 1.
Speaking on Labour Rights, AvileVitso, assistant labour commissioner Nagaland, highlighted on labour rights such as payment of wages , safety of the workers, equal wages, maternity benefit, child labour, legal adoption, various schemes etc.
Speaking on Nagaland Village Council and Tribal acts, Customary Practices in Nagaland, Kekhriengulie Theunuo, retainer lawyer KDLSA highlighted on Nagaland jhum act and hierarchy of the customary Courts.
The programme chairman, Keduvi Zhotso, panel lawyer KDLSA, informed that international workers day was first celebrated in USA in 1886, which is famously known as 8 hours movements now known as International Labour Day.
Closing remarks was proposed by Zheviholi Swu, panel lawyer KDLSA.
Earlier, S. Athsangla SDO(C) Jakhama, in her keynote address, stressed on the importance of legal awareness and requested the audience to avail the benefits of legal aid.
Tuensang: Along with the rest of the world, Tuensang District Legal Services Authority (TDLSA) also observed International Labour Day at CKS Hall.
Speaking on the significance of International Labour Day, N. Kano, judicial magistrate 1st class & secretary TDLSA, informed how and where International Labour’s Day started. He also highlighted on the free and competent legal services to the poor and marginalized people in the form of legal advices, drafting application, petitions and affidavits and court based cases.
Yampi, programme manager of IDS (NGO), highlighted on the services rendered to the beneficiaries under Nagaland Building and other construction workers in Tuensang.
On the importance of having Labour unions and Associations, Katovi, A.P.P Tuensang encouraged the gathering to be equipped in order to improve the economy.
Speaking on Nagaland Building and other construction workers welfare schemes, Yimtsusangla, retainer lawyer, TDLSA informed that under the scheme, registered beneficiaries were entitled to get insurance cover, maternity benefits, grant for purchasing tools, and scholarships for the children.
Cheliam Khiamniungan, master trainer NSLSA spoke on NALSA Scheme of legal services to the Workers in Un-Organised Sector.
Altogether 90 beneficiaries/labourers along with representatives from Social Welfare Department, Labour Department and Integrated Development Society (NGO) attended the programme. The programme was chaired by Antimangyang, panel lawyer TDLSA.
Zunheboto: Zunheboto District Legal Services Authority (ZDLSA) observed International Labour Day at District Court Complex, Zunheboto.
Speaking as the resource person, Easter H. Yeptho, panel lawyer ZDLSA emphasized on the celebration of International Labor day.
Earlier, introduction and keynote address was delivered by Atoka Achumi, JMFC and secretary ZDLSA, while district & session judge cum chairman ZDLSA, delivered a short speech on the significance of ILD.
Shikatoli Achumi, district & sessions judge staff, said the invocation.
The programme was chaired by Tovi Z. Yeptho, retainer lawyer ZDLSA and J. Khetoholi Yeputhomi, public prosecutor, delivered the vote of thanks.
Phek: In Phek, the Phek District Legal Services Authority (PDLSA) felicitated traffic personnel, Nenkupe Meruh at ADC Pfutsero conference hall on the occasion on ILD.
It may be mentioned that Nenkupe Meruh voluntarily cleans garbage at Pfutsero town.
SDPO Pfutsero and staff, OC Pfutsero, members from Kalos society, DBs and public leaders of Pfutsero attended the programme.
Mon: Meanwhile, Mon District Legal Services Authority (MDLSA) also observed International Labour Day at Government Higher Secondary School Mon ‘D’.
