As part of the centenary celebration of Bharat Sevashram Sangh (BSS), Pranab Vidyapith Higher Secondary School (PVHSS) Dimapur organised a seminar on “The role of women in curbing the social degeneration” here at Pranab Jubilee Auditorium on Thursday.
The seminar was divided into three sessions namely inaugural session, paper presentation, and Q&A session. The inaugural session was graced by Swami Chinmayanandaji Maharaj, secretary BSS Dimapur and Karbi Anglong.
Swami in his speech informed that BSS is a vast network of volunteers across the globe dedicated to helping people in distress. The Sangha’s social welfare activities include disaster relief, spreading education, providing healthcare facilities, vocational training and upliftment of the tribals, he stated. According to Swami, BSS manages 200 schools/colleges spread across the globe, 28 educational institutions in North East India including the first women’s college in Nagaland, Pranabananda Women’s College Dimapur. The spiritual leader also took the opportunity to highlight the Sangh’s activities for the welfare women and child, especially girl child in India.
He lamented how society still tends to bemoan the birth of a girl child rather than celebrating as in the case of a male child and called for a change of mindset in this regard. Principal PVHSS Manoj Bhattacharjee in his introductory speech highlighted the various activities of PVHSS and BSS.
Earlier, the inaugural session commenced with garlanding the portrait of Sri Sri Guru Maharaj and lighting of lamp. Sharmistha Mukherjee, S/T presented the opening song. In the second session, intellectuals, scholars, and experts comprising Prof. Majakhan Kamei of PWC Dimapur, Prof. Pradip Chakraborty of PCC Dimapur, principal of St. Paul HSS Dimapur Sister Ronit, Prof. Dulal Mazumder of PCC, and principal Immanuel College Dimapur Saratchandra Singh presented papers on the topic.
The session was chaired by principal PWC, Uma Bhowmick.
Later, there was question hour and conclusion. A summary of the seminar was delivered by the chairperson. Ashok Kumar Ray (Sr.) A/T and Rahul Bhattaacharjee S/T delivered vote of thanks. The programme was conducted by Arijit Bhattacharjee S/T.
