Truckers urge UNC to relax eco blockade

Truckers and transporters union of Assam and Nagaland has appealed to the United Naga Council (UNC) to relax the economic blockade it had imposed along National Highway-2 taking into consideration the untold miseries faced by truckers and transporters who were stranded along the highway.
In a letter to the UNC president, the union president Khehuli said the drivers have been going through harrowing times since the imposition of the blockade. Besides facing problems in the form of season changes, the union said drivers were equally affected by demonetisation as they could not buy food or water with banned currency notes.
The union “fully” appreciated UNC protest, which it described was genuine and for the greater good of the people and the future generations to come. The union, however, at the same time, appealed to the UNC to “appreciate the seriousness of our people” as thousands of vehicles along with drivers and their helpers carrying goods for people of the region have been stranded along the highway for the past month.
Maintaining that with the winter holidays approaching everyone was getting themselves ready to have a good time with their family during the Christmas, the union expressed hope that UNC would relax the blockade in the true spirit of humanity and more importantly in consideration as Christians, whose major holiday was Christmas.
