As a follow up of the 5th edition of Young Leaders Connect in Itanagar in October, YLC discussed with the union minister of State (Ind) Rajiv Pratap Rudy and pitched for a fellowship progam for emerging entrepreneurs and various other skill building program under the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship in the North East. The meeting was attended by YLC members Sushmita Dev (MP) Gaurav Gogoi (MP), Hotelier Bjorn DeNeise, Hekani Jakhalu (founder YouthNet) and other joint secretaries of the ministries including Jyotsna Sitling.
Earlier in October at Itanagar, Rudy had said skill development needed to be integrated with school education for successful entrepreneurships and the centre would provide “all possible help” for skill development to the youth of the north-east for gainful self-employment.
YLC also proposed for skill development of North East youth under special category of PMKVY. Although, PMKVY 2.0 includes few courses in-line with traditional skills of NE people there was still a greater potential to adhere to traditional/local skills of the people and make them employable. The project would eventually help in building and supporting NE entrepreneurs with skilled human resources and further establish stronger market links for the products or services.YLC is an initiative of YouthNet started in 2012 creating a platform for young leaders and achievers of North-East.
