Create conducive atmosphere for differently abled: DC Mkg

Highlighting the need to create awareness about the differently abled persons in the society, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Mokokchung, Sushil Kumar Patel said it was the responsibility of the society to create conducive atmosphere instead of discriminating them.
He was speaking at the inaugural of the “CURE Foundation”– a centre for the differently abled persons, Tuesday at Aongza Ward, Mokokchung.
“Let us join our hands to support and care for the differently abled people because they are special”, said the DC.
Stating that there are many provisions and facilities to assist and aid the differently abled persons such as constructing ramps in public places, the DC however lamented that the same was not implemented in the society.
He also urged the parents to come forward and register their differently abled children with the special medical board, set up by the government so that they could avail the benefits and schemes offered by the government.
Delivering the keynote address, “CURE Foundation” founder director, Akangnungba lamented that most of the differently abled in “our” society get less opportunities and as a result they remain underprivileged.
Lamenting that the differently abled persons are often marginalized, isolated and discriminated, he said with deep concern to uplift them the foundation has been founded.
The foundation was dedicated by ABAM executive secretary Rev. Dr. Mar Atsongchanger and a special song was presented by Katibenla Kichu, a differently abled nine year old girl. The programme was chaired by Lakhi, invocation was said by MTBA Associate Pastor Temsuwati Kichu and the benediction by Yisemyong Baptist Church Pastor Akangmongba.
