Tuensang town tribal and sector unions have condemned the “quit notice” issued by Yimchunger Public Co-ordination Committee (YPCC).
A co-ordination meeting in this regard was held initiated by CKS, wherein a resolution was also adopted by SUTT, KUTT, PUTT, Tenyimie, Ao, Sumi, Lotha, Tikhir, Gorkha, Hindu community, Muslim community, Pastors union, Sectors union and GBs union, a press release issued by president, M.P. Nokshang and gen. secretary Y. Toshi Chang informed. The resolution states that the unions:
1. Strongly condemned the press note on quit notice issued by YPCC.
2. All citizens of Tuensang should not adhere to quit notice issued by YPCC but jointly handle the situation for maintaining peace and tranquility in Town.
3. Untimely gathering and creating of nuisance in the public vicinity of Tuensang should be checked by all.
4. Sector GBs union, Tribal union to jointly steer all sector and check all unlawful activities in and around Tuensang.
5. Anybody taking law into their own hand should be booked as per the law.
6. Random closure of shops in Tuensang without proper order from appropriate authority should not be permitted.
YPCC clarifies on notice
In connection with the alleged “quit notice”, the Yimchungru Public Co ordination Committee (YPCC) has clarified that the notice was “neither a quit notice nor an ultimatum” served on some sections of the people in Tuensang town.
In a press release, YPCC convenor Lunthrungba Yimchungru and general secretary Lokhum Y.S. Yimchungru said it was “never intended to hurt the sentiments of any particular community but only an appeal made in good faith for their own safety in the ensuing misunderstanding between Yimchungrus and Changs.”
CM appeals for calm
Expressing deep concern over the developments in Tuensang district on “communal lines”, Nagaland chief minister T.R. Zeliang Saturday appealed to all the responsible tribal organizations to sort out differences amicably and to maintain calm in the district.
In a press release, Media Cell of Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) said has instructed the administration to ensure that the situation was contained. Zeliang also directed senior officers from the administration and the police to monitor the situation closely.
He further directed the State Police to ensure that adequate forces were deployed “to prevent untoward incidents by miscreants wanting to take advantage of the situation.”
According to CMO medial cell, Zeliang has expressed his satisfaction at the close coordination that was being maintained between the administration, Police and the Assam Rifles in Tuensang.
Despite taking all possible steps on the part of the government to prevent flare up of the situation, the chief minister maintained it was ultimately the people at large who had to be accommodative and restrain their words and actions so as to restore peace in the district.
TVCU: Also, reacting to the purported “quit notice”, the Tuensang Village Citizens Union (TVCU) has appealed to the citizens not to panic nor heed such “uncalled intimation”, which, it described was nothing but “just a selfish motive” created by some “anti-social”.
In a press release, TVCU president N.Y. Choba and general secretary C.Kaimang requested the general public to coordinate, work together and curb the menace, which they said was “an unhealthy development” aimed at “spreading fear psychosis and disturbances”.
TVCU also advised the business community of Tuensang town not to close down their establishments without proper order from the district administration so as to facilitate daily activities.
Lotha Hoho: Expressing deep grief and surprise over the reported ‘quit notice’ issued by the Yimchungru Public Co-Ordination Committee (YPCC) on non-Yimchungrus and non-Changs residing in Tuensang town, the Lotha Hoho, Wokha Saturday said it failed to “understand the motive or sanity of, anyone, issuing such a notice to one’s own brethren.”
In a press release, Lotha Hoho, Wokha general secretary Mhondamo Ovung appealed to the YPCC to review its “quit notice” and to revoke it immediately. Hoho said any dispute must be settled amicably within the fraternity of the concerned parties. Meanwhile, Lotha Hoho urged the state government and the responsible district administration to do whatever was necessary to avert any untoward eventuality. It also appealed to all affected communities to show solidarity and extend cooperation to the district administration and to remain calm.
KUT: Consequent upon the purported “quit notice” issued by Yimchungru Public Co ordination Committee (YPCC), the Khiamniungan Union Tuensang (KUT) held an emergency meeting January 9 at its office and appealed to the YPCC to withdraw the notice.
In a press release, KUT president T Longo and secretary Tsongtsa appealed to both parties to sit across the table and hammer out the problem, saying enmity would not benefit anyone instead would create more harm to the society. Union said it was ready to cooperate to any extent for amicable solution between the two brothers.
Meanwhile, urging the district administration to continue to keep vigil, KUT has assured to extend help any time the administration required its help. It also appealed to the citizens of Tuensang town to pray for peace and tranquillity to prevail in the district headquarters.
JD(U) unit: JD (U) Nagaland state unit appealed to the people of Chang and Yimchunger community to remain “calm and desist from any violence”
In a press release, JD(U) unit president Mhonjan Lotha urged both the sides to “sort out the differences through negotiation in a true Christian manner”.
Lotha also appealed DAN political affair committee “to intervene and to contain the present problem”.
