
Nagaland has been awarded as the top performing State from amongst the Northeastern States in the field of IT and e-Governance sector by Computer Society of India (CSI)-Nihilent.
The award was received by Nagaland chief minister, Dr. Shürhozelie Liezietsu in the presence of minister, IT&C P. Paiwang Konyak and chief secretary, Pankaj Kumar.
This was informed by commissioner and secretary, IT & C, K.D Vizo at a brief felicitation programme at the Chief Ministers Office, Nagaland Civil Secretariat, Kohima on Tuesday, stated DIPR report.
Vizo, who addressed the programme, stated that CSI- Nihilent e-Governance Awards is presented every year to outstanding performance in e- Governance.
He explained that the award was given on two categories- State and Project, where Nagaland received the award in State category.
Vizo said Nagaland is the first in India to take over State Portal and State Services Delivery Gateway (SP&SSDG) core infrastructure project, and the only State in India where the State IT department is running State Data Centre without engaging private Data Centre Operator (DCO).
Nagaland is also the only State in India acting as Service Centre Agency (SCA) without engaging private companies for running Common Service Centre (CSC). It was for this reason, the State has been ranked in number one category in India in e-District Mission Mode Project along with Gujarat, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal, Vizo said.
He further informed that Nagaland has also become the first State in North Eastern Region to implement Aadhar based Biometric Attendance System in Nagaland Civil Secretariat.
Dr. Shürhozelie Lezietsu congratulated the minister, commissioner & secretary, officer and staff and said that the department has made much progress made in a very short span of time and has brought laurels to the state while also attracting foreign companies.
He therefore, felt that young generation of the state will have no problem with the advancement of technology and expressed hope to see Nagaland emerging as one of the best states in the field of Information & Technology. Chief minister further assured his support towards development of IT department in the state.
Paiwang termed the occasion as a red letter day not only for the department but to the state.
He acknowledged the sacrifice and hard work put in by the officers and staff despite in few numbers, for which the department has been recognized at the national level.
Also speaking at the function, chief secretary said that the department has been achieving very significant milestones for the state.
He further stated that though Nagaland was not ranked too well in “Ease of Doing Business” in the country, the IT department has created a portal for the Industries & Commerce Department and expects the State’s ranking to improve.
Out of seven States (Gujarat, Nagaland, Karnataka, Chandigarh, Kerala, Pondicherry & Uttarakhand) which have taken up the National Information Infrastructure (NII) pilot project, Nagaland is the first State in the Country to commission the pilot project for NII on January 6, 2017.
It may be also noted that Nagaland has the largest BPO (Call Centres) in North Eastern Region with 400 seats and the first phase was commissioned on January 27, 2017.
CSI is the first and largest body of computer professionals in India representing computer professionals. It has 72 chapters across India, 511 student branches, and about 100,000 members.
