Zeliang exhorts 317 recruits from eastern Nagaland at attestation

Nagaland chief minister T.R. Zeliang pointed out that the police department was one of the biggest and most important of all departments in the government, as it was saddled with maintenance of law and order, which became its primary duty ever since the existence of organised societies and governments.
Speaking as chief guest at the 62nd batch attestation parade of recruit havildars and recruit constables at the Police Training School (PTS) Chumukedima Friday, Zeliang congratulated the successful recruits who will become part of the state’s police force.
He reminded the recruits that they will be in contact with various people at different levels while performing their duties. The impression thus created by the recruits in the minds of the public, will be the impression that public form about the police, he said. He advised them to be firm while dealing with criminals and friendly and helpful to citizens. In this regard, the chief minister reminded the recruits that their performance and behaviour would be crucial for maintenance of law and order. He also asked recruits to remember that failure of security results in breakdown of the entire government machinery.
The chief minister also pointed out that havildars and constables at the passing out parade Friday, were from a special dispensation for the four districts of Eastern Nagaland including the Sumis of Kiphire district.
He also advised the recruits not to be biased on the basis of caste, creed or religion etc. On rising sophistication of criminals, he said it was due to increasing complexity of modern life where crimes have become more complex and difficult to crack. He attributed it to criminals resorting to use of sophisticated gadgets and technology.
The chief minister stressed on the need for police to catch up with the changing times by using the latest methods and technologies. He said this called for improving quality of personnel with continuous update of knowledge and skills throughout their service. In this regard, the chief minister said police training schools had an important role to play and for which there was need to post the most suitable officers.
Zeliang also laid great stress on the need for all ranks to undergo refresher courses as merely having passed recruitment training was not enough especially in a fast changing environment.
