The book “A Bowl of Khaudzü”, written by Vishii Rita Krocha and illustrated by Adenuo Shirat Luikham, was launched at The Local Harvest, Kohima, on April 18.
Deputy secretary, Asalie Lese, who formally released the book, said it transcends a single dish to reflect family bonds, community life and cultural values. He emphasized the importance of documenting traditions and promoting local stories that younger generations can relate to.
Author Rita Krocha, in her address, shared that the book was inspired by her deep connection to khaudzü, a traditional dish tied to memories of family, comfort and community. She noted that many such foods are slowly disappearing and stressed the need to preserve them as part of cultural heritage. Describing the work as a labour of love, she said it honours farmers, captures personal memories and encourages younger generations to reconnect with their roots.
Marking PenThrill’s 120th publication, the book blends storytelling, culture and food. Dr. Vizovono Elizabeth highlighted that in Naga culture, food often expresses love and connection, and observed that the book beautifully reflects nostalgia, identity and oral storytelling through both words and illustrations. The programme was chaired by Runshito Lims, with a prayer by Senjano N. Murry. Illustrator Adenuo Shirat Luikham also shared her journey during the event.
