‘A call for better waste management in Nagaland’

I am writing this letter to bring attention to a serious issue that many people across Nagaland are facing — the poor management of waste in our towns and villages. Day by day, we see garbage being thrown on roadsides, in drains, or in empty plots. This not only makes our surroundings dirty but also affects our health, the environment, and even tourism.
One of the main problems is the lack of proper dustbins and trash containers. In many places, there are no bins at all, and even where bins exist, they are either broken, too few in number, or not cleaned regularly. Because of this, people often have no choice but to throw their waste on the road or in open areas. This leads to bad smells, the spread of diseases, and pollution of water bodies.
I would like to request the concerned authorities to take some important steps:

  1. Install more dustbins in busy markets, residential areas, public parks, and near schools and offices.
  2. Create proper dumping zones where garbage can be safely collected and sorted.
  3. Ensure regular collection of waste from these bins and dumping sites.
  4. Place clear signboards asking people not to litter and encouraging cleanliness.
  5. Introduce strict fines or penalties for people who throw garbage in the wrong places or refuse to follow waste rules.
At the same time, awareness campaigns should also be run in schools and communities to educate people about the importance of keeping our surroundings clean.
Keeping our environment clean is not just the job of the government, but of every citizen. However, without a proper system and strict rules, people will continue to ignore their responsibilities.
I hope the local authorities, and leaders will take this matter seriously and act quickly. Let us all work together to make Nagaland cleaner, healthier, and more beautiful.
Thank you for the opportunity to share my views and I hope you find this letter worth sharing with your readers.
