A call for collective responsibility towards cleanliness in Dimapur

Dimapur, the commercial hub of Nagaland, has witnessed commendable efforts by the Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) in their ongoing sanitation drives across the town and various colonies. These initiatives reflect a serious commitment towards making Dimapur a cleaner, healthier, and more pleasant place to live in. The DMC’s relentless efforts in collecting garbage, cleaning drains, and managing waste are truly appreciated by the citizens who understand the importance of sanitation in urban living.
However, maintaining cleanliness cannot be the responsibility of the authorities alone. It is equally the moral and civic duty of every resident to ensure that garbage is not carelessly thrown into drains, on roadsides, or in public spaces. Proper disposal of waste not only supports the DMC’s efforts but also prevents the clogging of drainage systems, thereby reducing health risks and improving the overall appearance of our surroundings.
That said, it has been observed that despite the sanitation drives, piles of dust and litter continue to accumulate along road dividers, flyovers, and roadside corners in various parts of the town. These unattended areas contribute to a filthy and unhygienic environment, defeating the very purpose of the sanitation initiatives. The dust and garbage on both flyovers and along the main roads not only mar the city’s image but also pose health hazards, particularly during the dry season when dust becomes airborne.
Therefore, while we commend the DMC’s efforts, we also urge the concerned authorities to take more proactive steps to ensure regular cleaning of dust and debris from road dividers, flyovers, and all other public spaces. Regular sweeping and disposal of these wastes will significantly enhance the city’s hygiene and aesthetic appeal.
At the same time, we call upon every citizen, colony, and community organization in Dimapur to take ownership of their surroundings. Awareness drives, community clean-up campaigns, and responsible waste disposal habits must go hand-in-hand with the municipality’s actions.
Cleanliness reflects the character of a city and its people. If Dimapur aspires to be recognized as a progressive and respectable town, every individual must contribute to keeping their surroundings clean — not just during special drives, but as a regular habit. Let us work hand-in-hand with the Dimapur Municipal Council to build a cleaner, greener, and more beautiful Dimapur for the generations to come.
