It is a clear biblical proof that divine severe consequence followed a nation that sold its allegiance to false gods and sham deities. God, the Creator cannot be seen by human eyes (Exodus 33:20; John 1:18). But He sees us, regulates us and supplies all our needs. But false gods can neither bless nor protect a nation.
Israel nation chosen by God
Violating God’s commandment of “You shall have no other gods” (Exodus 20:3), the Israel nation destroyed the sanctity of their relationship with God by idolizing a calf image carved and projected it to be worshipped with a consequent loss of 3000 (Ex 32:2-29). The leadership of the nation accepted foreign deities and cults through political alliances and inter-marriages. As a result of their apostasy and unfaithfulness, the Israel nation was wiped out with series of captivity, deportation and dispersion under Assyrians, Babylonians, Persians, Greeks and Romans, respectively. Captivities, displacement, disasters and calamities are the chief forms of punishment when a nation covenants and gives its nation to counterfeit gods and false deities.
On the other hand, God (Yahweh) demonstrated His power over false gods and nations of pagan worship, idolatry and fertility cults. For example, the prophet Elijah killed 450 of Baal’s false prophets (1Kg 18:40). God had not ended his love for the chosen nation on the account of the faithful remnant through whose lineage He fulfilled His plan of eternal salvation. Of course, the history of Israel should have been entirely a different one should they remain faithful to God.
America acknowledged God
God loves a nation whose leaders dedicate their nation and land to Him (Psalms 33:12). The pioneers of USA gave their land to God with God’s eye on their currency, inscribing “In God We Trust” and historically regulated their national principles on the orbit of biblical foundation. No wonder why today their President is practically the world’s President, their money is the world’s currency, their language and worldview as the world’s wave, and leadership as world’s influence, and their superiority as the world’s impact. This nation sends the highest number of missionaries across the world. Nagas received the Gospel from this nation. Greatness comes from God. There is no mistake when a nation dedicates its land to the true God.
Haiti replaced God with voodoo
On the other hand, Haiti was one example when its leaders dedicated their land to Satan that failed to avert a major earthquake that affected some 3 millions on January 12, 2010 and subsequently, another on August 14, 2021 that claimed many lives. Here is a history of how Haiti gave its nation to false deities, namely, Voodoo (Vodou) which is a syncretistic and blended animistic religion with consequence of catastrophic devastation:
……. on August 14, 1791 by voodoo priests who covenanted with Satan, dedicating their country to him if he would set them free from French who were enslaving and exploiting them. Everyone sacrificed a black pig in a voodoo ritual and hundreds of the slaves drank its blood, swearing an oath to Satan to serve for deliverance. The nation of Haiti was officially born in 1804 and ever since, the witch doctors met to make sacrifice to Satan. And since then its fortunes have turned to chains of poverty, despair, oppression, and untold tragedy.
A second time, in 1991 Haiti was rededicated to Satan on its 200-year anniversary making Voodoo as the official religion of Haiti declaring, “Voodoo is an essential part of national identity”. On that day, all the radio stations played nothing but Voodoo music. Hundreds of Voodoo priests were flown from Africa to take part.
Haiti is the only country in the entire world that has dedicated its nation to satanic deities. Demonic spirits are consulted for decisions, to cast spells, to perform all that has to do with witchcraft. Haitian children are taught at a very young age all about Voodoo rites, services and rituals, about bòkò or witch doctor, and the power he has. They give their lives by going to the witch doctors with prayer for fortunes.

The act of dedication is associated and performed with ‘objectifying, idolizing, and popularizing false gods or satanic agents by merry making, sorcery activities, ritual gesture, bewitched and possession by demonic spirits and witchcraft, sacrifice in some forms, and dancing and indulgence in drunkenness and vulgar festivities’. The response from the true God is inescapable when a nation exchanges its God-given sanctity for duplicity, indulgence, and harbors falsehood.
Nations God called to repent
The Bible talks about shallowness and easy deviation of the Galatians (Gal 1:6-9). The initial emotional enthusiasm and fervency of the Galatians did not last long. They were warned of their instability and short-lived faith. In strong term, the Apostle Paul condemned the false preachers who uprooted their biblical faith. The backsliding Ephesians (Rev 2:5) was due to their immaturity and ungrounded faith. They were told to repent and restart from where they reverted for God to continue His love for them. The Lord Jesus said: “Unless you repent, you also will perish” (Luke 13:3) as He has sword and winnowing basket in His hand.
Nagas accepted God
It is too early for Nagaland to diminish and die. Nagaland will survive and succeed if Nagas promote biblical quality such as faith, honesty, character and principle of truth. Modern vulnerabilities must not destroy the vitality of Nagaland. Nagas must beware of deviation from truth, spiritual camouflages, infiltrating illusory and imaginary philosophies, false cults under a pretext of and in a hand-glove of sly wave of deception. Nagaland is invaded by seductive and vulgar trap of foreign cultic beliefs, heresies, denial of hell, new age, and universalistic influence, syndicate of satanic activities, infiltration of ideological fundamentalism, and reversion from established biblical truth.
Christian faith is the foundation and heritage of Nagaland ever since the arrival of the Gospel. The Nagas, before the advent of Christian faith, dedicated a child, a plot of land, a festival or any significant event or occasion to vicious deities who were nameless, imaginary, figment or speculative. But at the wake of the Truth (John 8:32, 36), the old animistic practices were buried and dispelled including weapons used for headhunting and other gross and unscriptural attachments. Along the way, the beauty and uniqueness of Nagas is a church building standing on the conspicuous point of every village and town. God is above a physical building but He is worshipped in sanctuaries.
The Nagas came out of animistic darkness (2Cor 6:17) some 153 years ago by inviting the Prince of Peace as their Lord and Savior. Communities and villages were reconciled at the court of the Grace. He is the one who protected us in jungles and in hideouts, and all enormous courses of national and spiritual journeys. Our land was dedicated to the living God in 1946 as ‘Nagaland for Christ’ acknowledging His Sovereignty as the Creator, submitting our lives and land for the cause of the Gospel, and expecting His guidance and blessing in the onward course of our journey. Hence, the living God has, undeniably, blessed the Nagas in manifold. Think of how God is good to Kohima, the capital, district capitals, cities and towns, villages, and contiguous Naga inhabited homes. Think
of His blessings, divine protection, education of youth, mission rippling, development and prosperity amid human odds. God is good!
Nagaland has just begun and it must go a long way, fulfilling many things and contribute to the surrounding neighbors and nations beyond, ahead. Not on disturbing elements, but Nagaland must focus on what God has for us and His plan for the upcoming generation. A clear conscience is the need of the hour. God has bigger plan for Nagas, far greater than factional issues, NLTP and petty denominational mindset. On the whole, the strategy of a progressive future is our unshakable ‘Relationship with the Living God’. A nation is blessed when its people worship the true God. The true God is the true God. The God of Abraham is the God of the Nagas and the world.
God bless Nagaland!
