Dimapur: The Office of the District Economics & Statistics Officer (DESO), Dimapur, organised a programme on April 28 at Hotel Saramati for the distribution of IT equipment under the Registration of Births & Deaths and the formal launch of Aadhaar enrolment for children aged 0–5 years.
Delivering an overview, Neisatuo Puro, Additional Director, Economics & Statistics and Joint Chief Registrar of Births & Deaths, Nagaland, highlighted the benefits of digital registration and urged village councils and authorities to actively support the process as primary notifiers of vital events. He cautioned against manipulation of records and called for vigilance to ensure accuracy. Puro further appealed for assistance in digitising old certificates and encouraged Registrars to remain proactive in their duties, supported by computers, printers and internet dongles provided under the initiative.
Deputy Commissioner Dimapur & District Chief Registrar of Births & Deaths, Dr. Tinojongshi Chang, stressed that vital statistics often remain inaccurate due to non-registration of events. He underscored the importance of digital records for education, career opportunities and census data, while cautioning against issuance of multiple certificates.
District Education Officer, Dimapur, Jevika Kiba, described the distribution of IT equipment as a step towards empowering institutions with digital tools. She urged teachers to act as community leaders in spreading awareness on registration and welcomed the launch of Aadhaar enrolment for children as a move towards inclusive identity.
Earlier, R. Akang Ao, Joint Director & DESO Dimapur, in his welcome address, emphasized strengthening digital systems for efficient services.
The programme culminated with the distribution of IT equipment and the launch of Aadhaar enrolment for children aged 0–5 years.
Meanwhile, similar programmes were held in Phek and Longleng districts.
At Phek, the Department of Economics & Statistics organised the distribution of IT equipment under the Aadhaar enrolment initiative on April 27 at the DESO office. Deputy Commissioner Phek, Rhosietho Nguori, formally launched Aadhaar registration for children in the presence of Additional Director Neisatuo Puro. The programme was chaired by DESO Phek, Muyalu Kath.
In Longleng, the DESO office hosted the launch on April 28. Deputy Commissioner & District Chief Registrar of Births & Deaths, W. Manpai Phom, inaugurated Aadhaar enrolment for children and distributed IT equipment to selected Registrars under Phase-I.
He stressed timely registration and digitisation of old certificates, noting the transition from manual to systematic digital processes. ESO Kohima, Nzanbemo Kithan, shared an overview of the Civil Registration System, while DESO Longleng, Nyushotho Nyuthe, chaired the programme and urged efficient use of IT equipment at block level for citizens’ benefit.
