Aadhaar-linked birth registration (ALBR) was launched in Nagaland on Thursday, becoming the first state in North Eastern region to start the system, which facilitates birth registration based Aadhaar enrolment for children in the 0-5 years age group.
Commissioner Nagaland, T Mhabemo Yanthan, who launched the initiative at a programme here on Thursday, expressed appreciation for the achievement and said it was an effort to make the process of Aadhar and birth registration process seamless and friendly for the parents and children.
Yanthan said ALBR is a system in which Aadhaar enrolment is performed at the time of birth which further links to birth registration. Enrolment was done through a tablet with the supervision of the CELC Operators and only a proof of relationship document was required to enrol the child. He urged that every newborn should be covered for Aadhaar enrolment through the ALBR.
The key benefit that infants receive is their own unique identity and accordingly tracking of services to children like immunization, ICDS, education and other social welfare services also becomes easier to parents and departments as well.
He said ALBR would play a vital role in enrolling new born babies and also cover children below the age of 0-5 years. He urged the state government officials to cooperate in successful implementation of ALBR in all the districts of Nagaland so that no child was deprived of any social welfare schemes aimed for their benefit.
During the inaugural address, UIDAI regional office Guwahati director, Col Abhishek Koushik congratulated the government of Nagaland on becoming the first state in the North Eastern Region to implement ALBR.
He lauded the consistent efforts being carried out by the office of the commissioner Nagaland for providing Aadhaar linked services to the residents of the state.
