AAP Workers Protest at Raghav Chadha’s Residence

On a recent day in Mumbai, leaders and workers of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) organized a protest outside the residence of Rajya Sabha member Raghav Chadha. The protest escalated quickly, leading to police intervention and the detention of several demonstrators. More than eight individuals were registered in a First Information Report (FIR), reflecting the intensity of the situation.

The protests were ignited by Chadha’s reported desertion from the party, prompting demonstrators to chant slogans such as “traitor Raghav Chadha.” This public outcry highlights the frustrations of AAP supporters over the recent political shifts. Chadha and six other AAP MPs announced their coalition with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), constituting a significant political transition, particularly within the Rajya Sabha, where AAP had initially held ten seats.

Following the protests, the Khar police station acted swiftly, issuing notices to the detained individuals. The case filed against Chadha’s opponents includes allegations of unlawful assembly and protest activities, classified under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Maharashtra Police Act. This legal action is part of a broader narrative responding to political defections that could prompt further discussions about existing laws governing political practices in India.

In the wake of this protest, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann has signaled intentions to meet with President Droupadi Murmu, aiming to discuss the disqualification of AAP’s rebel members. As this political saga continues to evolve, it raises questions about party loyalty and the implications of the new alliances formed in parliament.
