DIMAPUR: Angami Baptist Church Council (ABCC) has strongly condemned the brutal attack on church leaders on May 13 between Kotzim and Kotlen villages in Kangpokpi district, Manipur, which claimed the lives of three prominent church leaders and left several others injured.
The deceased were identified as Rev. Dr. Vumthang Sitlhou, former general secretary of Manipur Baptist Convention; Rev. Kaigoulun Lhouvum, secretary of finance, youth & music department of Thadou Baptist Association; and pastor Paogoulen Sitlhou. They were returning from Churachandpur after attending the United Baptist Convention Conference.
In a statement, ABCC executive director, Rev.Dr. Rachülie Vihineuo and president, Rev. Zhabu Terhüja, expressed deep shock and anguish over the incident, describing it as “barbaric, inhuman and unimaginable.” It said the act was an outright disregard for the sanctity of human life and a serious crime before God. Quoting scripture, ABCC reminded that “Do not touch my anointed ones” (1 Chronicles 16:22; Psalm 105:15), stressing that murdering God’s servants is a grave sin.
ABCC appealed to the government of Manipur to ensure an impartial and thorough investigation and hold the perpetrators accountable. It also urged the grieving community to shun hatred, leave vengeance to God, and allow justice to prevail.
The council conveyed condolences to the bereaved families and prayed for comfort and healing for those injured.
