Around 19 Dimapur-based organizations, comprising civil society groups and youth bodies have issued a 48-hour ultimatum, effective from October 12, to the chairman of the Cease Fire Monitoring Group (CFMG), demanding the arrest of those responsible for the abduction and extortion demand on October 10.
Informing this at the press conference at Hotel Saramati on Saturday, Dimapur Ao Youth Organization president Tia Longchar said that this was stated in the representation endorsed by the 19 organizations to be submitted to the CFMG chairman, seeking prompt intervention and assistance to arrest the culprits involved in the October 10 abduction and extortion case.
He mentioned that the organizations found it appropriate to submit a representation to the Cease Fire Monitoring Group chairman, as the authority responsible for overseeing ceasefire agreements, to highlight any violations of ceasefire ground rules by Naga political groups.
Interim Dimapur Tribal Youth Body formed
Meanwhile, the organizations also adopted a five-point resolution to form an interim Dimapur-based youth tribal body, among othes, until a full-fledged Dimapur tribal youth organization is established, in consultation with apex tribal bodies in Dimapur.
This initiative follows the resolution for the formation of a Nagaland-based youth organization, endorsed during a public rally held on August 6, he stated.
Tia emphasized that the interim youth body aims to strengthen the collective voice of all Naga communities, working inclusively to represent everyone. Youth organizations not present at the press conference have also conveyed their support for these resolutions, he stated.
The house also urged the authorities to install CCTV cameras across Dimapur to enhance security and demanded the removal of designated camps located in public areas.
The house further reiterated its support the call for “one government, one tax” by the Naga Council Dimapur.
In connection with the abduction and extortion case, it was disclosed at the press meet that there was a confirmed report of “joint survey and raid” conducted by the police and CFMG, though no official details of the operation were made known.
It was also disclosed that following the expiry of the 48-hour ultimatum served on the police to apprehend the culprits involved in the case, the youth organizations had planned to protest outside at the designated camp. However, in a preemptive move, they said the joint survey and raid were conducted on October 12 before the expiry of the deadline.
