Nagaland University Students’ Union (L) has expressed strong resentment over the deplorable net connection services provided to Nagaland University (NU), Head Quarters: Lumami by state owned BSNL (Mokokchung circle), which, the union said, was hampering the academic growth of students and disrupting the functioning of the university.
NUSU (L) information & publicity secretary, Suraj Kumar stated that BSNL was “dragging down and pushing” the highest institute of education in the state towards a primitive age.
In spite of constantly apprising officials about the inconveniences caused, the release said that there was no improvement in BSNL services.
“Moreover the connection isn’t available daily” it lamented, “it’ll be there for a day or two and unavailable for 3-4 days at a stretch”. NUSU (L) also pointed out that the slow net speed problem was also brought to the attention of BSNL officials but no positive developments were seen.
According to the union, this problem not only affects the headquarters at Lumami but also the campus at Medziphema (SASRD) since the connection goes from Lumami to SASRD.
A lot of manpower, travel and time are spent on work that could have been done online easily, it said adding that every department was connected via LAN cables, but without internet, the work had to be done manually.
Even for verifying scholarship forms at the National Scholarship Portal, the University is at the mercy of the deplorable net service. The problems also include students not being able to access resources for their academics, thus hampering their studies, the union stated.
To safeguard the interests of students, NUSU (L) reminded BSNL to improve its services at the earliest or risk further course of action “for which the concerned officials would be solely held responsible.” It further asserted that NUSU (L) would accept nothing short of a 24×7, 365 days, connection with improved net speed at par with other central universities.
The NUSU (L) also requested the University authority to blacklist BSNL and find other remedial services if it fails to deliver.
