ACAUT demands govt action in RD scam

DIMAPUR, JUN 13 (NPN)

Lauding Kacharigaon (Phevima) Village Council (KVC) for exposing corruption by the Rural Development (RD) department, the ACAUT Nagaland has demanded immediate suspension of those officials involved in the “extortion racket/corruption scam.”
ACAUT Nagaland media cell said that allegations of corruption in RD department has once again reared its ugly head.
It said the KVC allegation against RD department came as “no surprise”, as it was an open secret known to all. “What is surprising is that out of the 1285 villages in so called the Christian state of Nagaland, only one village could sum up the courage to expose this extortion that has been going for years,” ACAUT said.
Appreciating KVC for not succumbing under any pressures, ACAUT appealed to all the villages in Nagaland to come forth in “exposing this blatant corruption” by RD department.
ACAUT recalled that in 2017 it had filed an FIR against the RD department/BDO Chümoukedima for alleged deduction of MGNREGA funds. However, it lamented that the matter could not proceed because the villages refused to testify.
It also demanded that the government immediately initiate a thorough and transparent inquiry, bring culprits to book and clear up the mess.
ACAUT cautioned that it would be compelled to explore all legal options including taking up this matter to the concerned central agencies if the government and the concerned department failed to take corrective measures as demanded.
Meanwhile, ACAUT Nagaland has appealed to all the Churches, Civil Society Organizations specially the youth organizations to come out “strongly against this evil practice.”
It said that “turning blind to such overt and blatant corruption” and calling Nagaland for Christ “surely has to be one of the great ironies.”
