Accurate census vital for development: Jacob Zhimomi

Staff Reporter

Minister of Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) Jacob Zhimomi on Friday underscored the critical importance of the ongoing census exercise, stating that accurate population data would determine the future course of development for the Naga people.
Speaking at the inauguration of the Lotha Community Ki at Diphupar, Zhimomi said government policies and resource allocation are based on verified statistics, and urged citizens to take the house listing and census process seriously. He cautioned against discrepancies in registration, noting that past errors must be rectified to ensure proper enrollment and long-term planning.
The minister, who attended the programme as special guest, expressed satisfaction over the completion of the community building and commended the construction committee and contributors for their collective effort. He described the building as a symbol of unity and identity, and hoped it would serve as a centre for education, planning, and strengthening community bonds.
Highlighting that true progress lies not only in infrastructure but also in social behaviour, character, and morality, Jacob called for greater unity among the 17 Naga tribes. He observed that while Nagas often display strong unity outside the state, the same spirit must be replicated at home. He urged leaders to build a shared identity based on trust, faith, and cooperation.
Referring to Diphupar’s connectivity through rail, air, and road, Jacob said the area holds significant potential for rapid development. He encouraged the community to accept imperfections and work collectively for peace and progress.
Earlier, Chumoukedima Lotha Hoho chairman Nchumthung Ngullie described the hall as a symbol of unity and cooperation, while Chumoukedima Lotha Eloe Hoho chairperson Loboni Ngullie expressed gratitude to the minister and urged responsible use of the facility. The inauguration stone was unveiled by the minister and dedicated by Rev. Limhathung Lotha, pastor of Lotha Baptist Church. The programme was chaired by Nzanbeni Khuvung, with a welcome address by LCD chairman Zubenthung Patto. Vote of thanks was delivered by DVC GB Khumkhothung Ngullie, followed by benediction from LBC Diphupar women leader Yanpvulo J Ovung.
