ACVA Wokha unit through its president Bankathung Lotha has brought up the issue of double payment of “illegal vehicular trucks taxation of royalty”. The unit stated that some unscrupulous agency, under the aegis of Geology and Mining department, started collecting rampantly, an amount of Rs 300 per truck load of sand from April 2018, calling it royalty tax, from trucks plying between Maraju to Wokha road. He also stated that the required taxation was normally paid to Assam state from where the sand load is purchased. Stating that double taxation was not at all justified, the ACVA Wokha unit office, after prolonged and through deliberations with frontal organizations, has informed the public in general and All Commercial Vehicles Association in particular to not entertain any double taxation demands or forced taxation or extortion by any agency. ACVA Wokha unit has forwarded a written application to the Deputy Commission Wokha to intervene in the matter, stating that the union would not be held responsible for any inconvenience if the matter was not brought to an amicable resolution.
