All Commercial Vehicle Owner Associations (ACVOAs) of Mokokchung, Tuensang, Zunheboto, Longleng and Wokha districts have called off the proposed indefinite ‘chakka bandh’ which was to begin from October 9.
A joint statement issued by the presidents of four units– Lanu Sangtem (Tuensang), Akheto Shohe (Zunheboto), Tongpangkokba (Mokokchung) and C Tony Yajem (Longleng) and in a separate press note issue by Wokha district action committee convenor C Renbi Ngullie and general secretary Nyanbemo Patton said that the associations have called off the bandh following the state government’s assurance to clear all pending bills on or before October 31.
The associations, however, warned that they would be compelled to impose the chakka bandh if the government failed to clear the payments by October 31. The associations had earlier served seven-day ultimatum on the state government to the disburse commercial fares incurred during 2023 Assembly elections.
However, they said that even after the expiry of deadline, the government failed to respond to their demand. This compelled the associations to call for an indefinite chakka bandh. Meanwhile, in a letter dated October 8, 2023 to the DCs of five districts, the commissioner Nagaland Mhabemo Yanthan said that government was actively considering on clearing all pending payments on or before October 31.
In this regard, the government conveyed its appeal to all ACVOAs to call off the proposed chakka bandh and extend necessary cooperation to the authorities concerned.
