DIMAPUR, JUL 12 (NPN): The Angami Catholic Youth Association (ACYA) of St. Francis de Sales (SFS) Parish, Kohima Town, organised a one-day sports meet on Saturday under the theme “Competing for God’s Glory” (1 Corinthians 10:31).
The event featured a range of competitions including basketball (3×3, free throw and three-point contest), futsal, arm wrestling, tug of war, relay race and obstacle race.
Catechist of SFS Parish, Petekhriezo Francis, graced the occasion as guest and urged the youth to uphold sportsmanship and mutual respect. He reminded participants that the competition should be “for God’s glory and not for fame or name.”
Referring to the ongoing FIFA World Cup, Francis highlighted how Catholic footballers express their faith by making the Sign of the Cross during matches. “Let God be the first and the last. In every profession, there is a way to glorify God,” he said, before hoisting the ACYA SFS flag to declare the meet open.
Spiritual director of ACYA SFS, Rev. Fr. Peter Pehiachanglu, invoked blessings, while Neiphivilie Amos, convenor of the sports committee, administered the players’ oath. The opening programme was chaired by president of ACYA SFS, Zhavilie Raymond. Prizes were later distributed by joint secretary, Dziesekhoü Jacinta, during the closing programme led by treasurer Maria Sekhose. Kedizhanuo Caroline of the sports committee proposed the vote of thanks and vice president, Ruokuolazotuo Emmanuel, offered the closing prayer.
