ADC Akuluto bans pig slaughter

DIMAPUR: Following reports of suspected African Swine Fever (ASF) at the State Pig Breeding Centre (SPBC), Akuluto, the Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Akuluto, Tiayanger Jamir, has issued an order prohibiting slaughter, sale, import and export of pigs, pork and pig products within Akuluto town and adjoining villages—Lumithsami, Shichimi, Sutemi and Alaphumi—falling within a one kilometre radius.
The order stated that post mortem examination of deceased pigs indicated gross pathological lesions consistent with ASF, with samples collected for laboratory confirmation. ASF, being a highly contagious viral disease, poses severe economic risks and spreads rapidly through movement of infected pigs, pork and contaminated materials.
All slaughter points and pork shops within the notified area have been directed to remain closed until further orders. Pig owners have been instructed to immediately report any unusual illness or death of pigs to the Farm Manager, SPBC Akuluto.
The ADC cautioned that violators of the order would face action under relevant provisions of law.
