Advocacy and Strategy Development Workshop with Stakeholders organized district level Children’s Parliament, under the aegis of Development Association of Nagaland (DAN) at Loyola Higher Secondary Kiphire on September 16.
A press release by DAN informed that DC, Kiphire, John Tsulise, in his keynote address said that children’s parliament was a platform where children were given the opportunity to practice about process and functioning of Parliament where important polices and decision were made. He added that bills were put up, debated and voted which ultimately passed and becomes a law.
DC expressed the hope that the platform would provide training ground to children and that the children who were members of the Children’s Parliament, would become members in the state assembly or Indian Parliament in the future.
He also lauded DAN for the sincere efforts taken to empower the children and encouraged the students to actively participate and to become responsible citizens. District Child Protection Officer, NS Khaikho, spoke on the scope of children’s collaboration with Child Welfare Committee, to safeguard child rights, while Nodal Officer of District Tobacco Control Cell, Dr N Moa Jamir, shared on scope for children’s participation with DTCC for control of tobacco consumption by children in the district.
Inspector Vithalietou Kire, from police department, addressed participants on the issues of the cybercrime and how it should be avoided and responded. In the Second session, the Children’s Parliament had its first general election which was facilitated by the training associate and mentors of the parliament.
