DIMAPUR, SEP 21 (NPN): A coffee table book commemorating the historic Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Athletics Federation of India (AFI), held in Kohima, Nagaland, in June 2026, was released at the AFI Headquarters in New Delhi on September 21.
According to DIPR, the book was released by President of the South Asian Athletics Federation, Dr Lalit K. Bhanot, in the presence of AFI Vice President and Advisor to the Chief Minister of Nagaland, Abu Metha.
The publication documents the landmark AGM, which marked the first occasion that Nagaland hosted the annual general meeting of a national sports federation. The event brought the leadership and representatives of Indian athletics to the State and marked a significant milestone in Nagaland’s engagement with national sporting institutions.
Congratulating Nagaland Athletics and its leadership for organising the AGM, Bhanot commended the arrangements and hospitality extended to the delegates. He also acknowledged the support of the Nagaland government under Chief Minister Dr Neiphiu Rio in making the event a success and promoting sports in the State.
Speaking at the release, Metha expressed gratitude to Bhanot and the AFI leadership for their continued support and confidence in Nagaland.
A key outcome of the AGM was the signing of the Kohima Declaration, which marked an important milestone for Indian athletics. The declaration is aimed at strengthening cooperation, institutional development and the growth and modernisation of athletics in the country.
Metha reiterated Nagaland’s commitment to creating opportunities for young athletes, strengthening sports infrastructure and institutions, and hosting more national and international sporting events.
