Aggrieved landowners suspend blockade on NHIDCL works

DIMAPUR, AUG 6 (NPN)

The aggrieved landowners affected by Kohima-Jessami 2-lane road construction project packages IIB-V on Wednesday announced immediate suspension of ongoing blockade on all NHIDCL related works and activities.
In a press release, aggrieved landowners convenor Kuveluyi Chuzho informed that the blockade, which commenced on July 17, would remain suspended until the end of August. Chuzho said blockade was suspended in a bid to “give diplomacy a chance” and provide an opportunity for ongoing talks at the highest ministerial level to yield positive outcomes.
The aggrieved landowners said suspension of blockade reflected their commitment to resolving the issues through peaceful dialogue and negotiations.
According to Chuzho, the decision to suspend agitation was reached after a meeting was called by deputy commissioner (DC) Phek on August 6, 2025, and intervention by DC Phek, SP Phek, Chakhesang Public Organization & Chakhesang Mothers’ Association.
However, the aggrieved landowners captioned that should the issues not be resolved by the end of August, they would resume agitation with more extreme measures. The aggrieved landowners have urged all stakeholders involved in the negotiations to prioritize finding a mutually acceptable solution that upheld the rights and interests of the landowners while ensuring the progress of the road construction project.
The landowners expressed hope that ongoing talks would lead to a satisfactory resolution.
