Agitations should be last resort: Yitachu

With education department in the state often marred by agitations, the minister for school education and SCERT Yitachu on Friday said though agitation was “a very easy form” of expressing dissatisfaction with the authority, it should be used as a last resort and not as a first resort.
The minister was speaking at the Parents’ Day celebration programme of Eastern Academy Higher Secondary School (EAHSS), near Airport, Diphupar A, here.
Yitachu termed as wrong the practice of immediately resorting to agitation, saying first it should be assed to what extent the government and department were working. “And if they are working not up to the mark, then any form of agitation is a must,” he said.
Pointing out that 60-70% of children in the state were in private schools, education minister said employment avenues in private schools was however hardly 20% of the total strength of the government education department employees.  Despite that, he said in comparison with private schools the performance of government schools was lagging far behind. Informing that new education policy in the state was coming and was in the process of consultation, the minister maintained that consultation process would go down to the grassroots level. He called upon people to freely express what they want their children to get out of that policy.
However, minister said one area of concern was giving education to children only to secure government job. He stressed that parents must provide education to their children to live a life.
Yitachu maintained that life was much more beyond securing a job, getting salary and enjoying life.
Reminding of how the education system began in Nagaland, he said barring a few areas the education system has transformed in such a short span of time.
Minister said if “we do not recall how our society came about in the past then we won’t be able to appreciate the efforts of our children.”
Earlier, delivering his speech, the school principal expressed gratitude to the parents for reposing their faith in the school in educating their children.
Stating that parents particularly mothers could guide a child properly in life, the principal said everything begins at home, adding that mothers should sacrifice for the betterment of their children. He also called upon the parents for extending cooperation to the school for better outcome. The principal appealed to the parents to keep enquiring about the performance of their children. Stating that teachers were also trying their best to impart quality education to children, school principal urged the parents to encourage and motivate their children.
To honour the parents on Parents’ Day, the school organised a colourful programme at the school campus.  School students presented a number of programmes including dances, choreography, plays, recitations etc to mark the occasion.
Eastern Academy, which was established in the year 2005 from lower nursery to class-V with 67 students, is now a Higher Secondary School with around 1000 students.
